The Agency of Transportation is seeking seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians for the Northwest Bridge crew. These positions will be responsible for various tasks related to bridge and highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching bridges and roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. It is anticipated that these positions will work 40 hours per week for approximately seven months.
This position, Transportation Operations Technician I - Temporary (Job Requisition #52288), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. All employees may be required to report to work outside of their area /work schedule and must be reachable by phone. Dangers are present when work is performed near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and roadside litter. Employees may be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Hazards are always present when working on the roads as traffic passes, emergencies such as flood, ice, snow hazardous materials. An incumbent must be able to use tools and equipment commonly used for maintenance work as well as lift materials commonly used in maintenance work. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or operating equipment. Considerable overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment.
No education or experience required.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver's license is required.
An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation.
An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled.
