Job summary

The State of West Virginia - Department of Transportation is seeking a Mechanic in the District 6 Equipment Shop network. The role focuses on maintenance, minor repairs, and testing of gasoline-powered equipment, with CDL requirements and potential travel among Brooke and Marshall County locations.

Apprenticeship progression applies based on hours and training. Qualified candidates may join a CDL-track program within six months, with a Tier 1 hourly rate of $18.3938 and opportunities for growth

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as an automotive mechanic servicing gasoline or diesel vehicles or equipment.
• No formal education required.
• Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, minor repairs, and minor overhaul on gasoline powered equipment.
• Repair tires on vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Inspect vehicles for compliance with state regulations.
• Drive equipment after repairs to test operation.
• Assist higher level mechanics in heavy equipment repairs.
• Install windshields and door glass.
