Job summary

West Virginia is seeking personnel for Transportation Worker 2 Traffic Control to maintain and repair roadway signs across District 4. Tasks include installing signs, operating equipment, and enforcing safety standards in work zones. CDL may be required within six months, and overnight travel is possible.

Progression through an apprenticeship program is based on hours, training, and CDL attainment. Tier 1 hourly rate starts at $18.39, with potential for additional duties and certifications as

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in roadway maintenance, traffic control, equipment operation or maintenance, or the fabrication of aluminum / other metal parts / other fabricated materials, comparable to the work performed by the Division of Highways.
• Substitution: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program in the area of assignment may be substituted for the required experience in the specified functional area.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove signposts; erect traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects.
• Operate hydraulic post driver to set new signposts.
• Erect signposts and new signs along roadway.
• Set up traffic control signs and flag motorists at work zones.
• Set up lane closures, road closures, and detours at work zones.
