Job summary

West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is seeking automotive mechanics for the District 6 Equipment Shop. Positions are within Marshall, Brooke and D6 Headquarters facilities, with an emphasis on gasoline engine work and occasional diesel components.

CDL must be obtained within six months. Pay grade 11H with tier 1 hourly rate around $18.39 and opportunities for progression in a structured apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time or equivalent paid experience as an automotive mechanic servicing gasoline or diesel vehicles/equipment.
• Substitution: vocational school program may substitute for experience.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair methods in building trades.
• Ability to read operating manuals and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, minor repairs and overhaul on gasoline-powered equipment.
• May work with diesel-powered components and test operation after repairs.
• Drive equipment after repairs to test operation and assist higher level mechanics in heavy repairs.
