Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Tyler, TX seeks a Transportation Maintenance Technician I (Gen Transp Tech I) to perform routine roadway maintenance, equipment operation, and traffic control duties. Responsibilities include assisting with sign installation, repairing highway infrastructure, and supporting emergency response.

CDL-A with N endorsement or 120 days to obtain CDL-A is required. This position offers outdoor work, safety-focused duties, and opportunities for career development

Qualifications

  • No formal education required.
  • Requires valid Texas driver's license and ability to drive a state vehicle.
  • CDL-A with N endorsement or obtain within 120 days.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; basic welding as needed.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Move/pick up litter and roadway debris.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public during emergencies.
  • Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship.
