Job summary

HDR is seeking a Transportation Hydraulics Engineer in San Diego to drive hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for state and local transportation projects. You will prepare plans, calculations, and reports while leading project teams and coordinating with clients.

The role requires a civil engineering background with strength in stormwater, hydrology, and design tools. PE eligibility and local DOT connections are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental, water resources or related field.
• Professional engineering license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) and 3+ years of licensed experience.
• Demonstrated design skills in stormwater and water resources with strong communication.
• Experience with Caltrans/municipal projects and DOT relations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide project engineering focus on transportation projects for Caltrans and municipal clients.
• Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and stormwater design.
• Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and engineering plans.
• Lead teams, mentor staff, and coordinate with cross-functional groups.
• Collaborate to ensure compliance with permitting, design standards, and scope.
