Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor 1 (TCIS-1) for our Pittsburgh, PA office. The TCIS-1 will conduct roadway and bridge construction inspections, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, plans, specifications, and cost estimates. This role involves extensive travel, with up to 75% of time spent on-site at various construction locations.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform comprehensive roadway and bridge construction inspections, including grade elevations, stakeouts, asphalt or concrete work, drainage, signage, traffic control, and excavation.
2. Coordinate inspection activities, assign tasks, provide guidance, and conduct performance evaluations.
3. Perform calculations, interpret plans, measure quantities, review quality control plans, and generate reports.
4. Review and interpret construction plans, drawings, and technical documents.
5. Conduct tests on aggregates, compaction, specific gravities, and other materials at plants or sites.
6. Package material samples for shipping and document sampling and testing procedures.
7. Operate nuclear gauges and perform compaction control inspections.
8. Analyze rock and soil properties, including moisture, density, and elevation.
9. Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and officials.
10. Document and report on construction activities, progress, and issues.
11. Ensure safety regulations are followed on-site.
12. Assist in resolving construction-related disputes and issues.
13. Provide technical guidance to inspection team members.
14. Advise management on developments affecting profit, schedule, costs, and client relations.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in transportation construction inspection or related field; experience with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, municipal, or water/sewer projects preferred.
• High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field is a plus.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Knowledge of Deltek Ajera, Microsoft Office suite, and general electronic tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and practices.
• Ability to travel extensively, up to 75% on-site.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Relevant certifications such as EIT/FE, PE, NICET Highway Construction, and others are desirable.
