Job summary

Warren Woods Public Schools is seeking a part-time Transportation Clerk in Warren, Michigan. The role runs Monday to Friday, 5:00 am–8:00 am, 3 hours daily during the school year, with paid holidays and leave days.

Monday – Friday

3 hours per day (School Year Position)

5am-8am

5 Paid Holidays

3 Leave Days Per Year

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for assisting the Transportation Dispatcher with office operations and filing
  • Responsible for assisting the Transportation Dispatcher with processing and submitting department payroll
  • Responsible for assisting the Transportation Dispatcher with scheduling transportation for special and regular education students, field trips, athletic events, etc. for the purpose of meeting overall transportation requirements.
  • Responsible for utilizing automated employee absence program to determine required facility and transportation substitute coverage
  • Responsible for assigning maintenance and operations substitutes for vacancies as necessary
  • Responsible for assigning field trips and input trip data into the district’s computerized field trip program
  • Responsible for working with parents, drivers and school administrators to resolve transportation issues
  • Responsible for maintaining communications with bus drivers
  • Responsible for advising building personnel of route changes, bus changes, late arrivals, departures, etc.
  • Responsible for making and receiving telephone calls, takes messages, routes calls
  • Responsible for assigning bus drivers to extra trips using driver rotation and sub list as needed.
  • Responsible for assisting in routine office operations
  • Responsible for scheduling substitute bus drivers as needed
  • Responsible for assigning and processing maintenance requests
  • Responsible for monitoring and tracking utility reports and usage
  • Responsible for maintaining the district’s over time records for Facilities and Transportation as required
  • Responsible for maintaining vacation, sick usage and personal accruals as required
  • Responsible for working with the Director of Facilities and Transportation on all projects relating to the department
  • Responsible to maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Responsible for other related duties as assigned by administration.
Requirements
  • High school diploma; previous secretarial experience.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Edulog School Bus Routing Software, SchoolDude, Blackboard, Aesop and Safeschools
  • Must possess a high level of skill in communication, both written and verbal
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to direct bus drivers, and work harmoniously with office staff, administration, students, and parents
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to write clear correspondence and messages. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students and the community.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills – Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Clerk’s work within an office setting and move about as needed. The job typically requires minimal physical exertion; individuals in this position may be on their feet throughout the workday. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office and building. The Clerk may need to sit for extended periods of time. In addition, the person may need to occasionally push or lift equipment or boxes. The employee may need to travel to other buildings occasionally. The employee will need specific vision abilities to perform office work. The Clerk is required to work at a computer. The employee may be required to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed primarily indoors. The office area is busy at times. It is an open area where the Clerk is faced with interruptions.
