Job summary

1898 & Co. seeks a Transmission Planning Consultant to advance electric grid reliability and renewable integration. You will perform advanced transmission studies (power flow, stability, short-circuit) and support client decisions with rigorous technical and economic analyses.

The role requires ABET‑accredited engineering education, 3+ years experience, and strong knowledge of industry software. Travel and collaboration with project teams across North America are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; 3+ years experience, ABET accredited program.
• Master's degree in engineering or business with 2+ years experience, or PhD with 1+ year experience.
• Experience with electric utility operations, planning or consulting.
• Proficiency in power system planning analyses and compliance with NERC/FERC standards.
• Ability to lead and train a team of consultants and analysts.

Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of transmission planning studies (power flow, stability, short-circuit, etc.).
• Apply regulatory requirements and regional criteria to studies and recommendations.
• Use industry tools (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod) for analyses.
• Develop technical reports and client presentations with actionable insights.
• Support project managers with deliverables, proposals, and business development.
• Communicate findings clearly in meetings and reviews.
