Job summary

1898 & Co. is seeking a Transmission Planning Consultant to advance electric grid reliability, renewable integration, and economic analysis for North American clients.

You will perform advanced transmission studies, support decision-making with high-quality technical assessments, and contribute to client deliverables and proposals. The role requires collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, strong analytical skills, and the ability to travel as needed to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program or related degree and 3 years of related experience required.
• Or master's degree in engineering or business and 2 years of experience required.
• Or PhD in engineering and 1 year of experience required.
• Prior experience with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
• Experience with power system planning and operations; transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis; NERC, FERC, and Regional requirements.
• Knowledge of multiple ISOs such as PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, NYISO.

Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of transmission studies and consulting services including power flow, stability, transfer capability, short-circuit and voltage analysis.
• Evaluate regulatory conditions and risks applying NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.
• Independently execute transmission system planning studies with industry software (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
• Develop technical assumptions for life-cycle cost analysis including capital and O&M costs.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations with actionable client insights.
• Support project managers with client deliverables, proposals, and business development.
