Job summary

1898 & Co. seeks a Transmission Planning Consultant to advance electric grid studies and provide technically sound, economically informed analysis for North American clients.

You will conduct power flow, stability, and reliability assessments, leverage industry tools, and support clients with decision-ready insights while working within Burns & McDonnell’s broader team. Strong modeling, regulatory, and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related ABET-accredited program with 3 years of related experience.
• Master's degree in engineering or business with 2 years of experience.
• PhD in engineering with 1 year of experience.
• Experience with electric utility operations, planning or consulting.
• Experience with power system planning and operations; NERC, FERC, and regional requirements; production costing and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission planning studies using industry tools (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
• Analyze engineering, financial and economic data to support client projects.
• Develop life-cycle cost estimates including capital and O&M costs.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations with findings and recommendations.
• Support project managers with client deliverables, proposals and business development.
• Participate in client meetings and technical reviews.
