Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group, LLC is seeking a civil/structural engineering intern to support overhead transmission line design, drafting, and data collection in Chattanooga, TN. You will work with senior engineers on modeling, routing, and pole loading analyses.

You will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and PLS-CADD while contributing to design packages and documentation for project deliverables, under supervision, for ~40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Coursework or familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or PLS-CADD.
• Basic understanding of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IBC.
• Strong attention to detail and interest in power delivery systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with all aspects of overhead transmission line design, including PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, and structure analysis.
• Support drafting and mapping using AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar software.
• Implement engineering redlines and ensure drawing accuracy.
• Perform basic engineering calculations, such as sag-tension analysis and pole loading checks, under supervision.
• Help prepare documentation, reports, and design packages for project deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop and refine engineering solutions.
• Participate in design reviews, field data collection, and technical meetings.
• Maintain organized records of design data, drawings, and project notes.
• Work approximately 40 hours per week during the internship period.
