Job summary

KLJ is seeking an entry- to mid-level transmission engineer to support the design, planning, permitting, and construction of utility-scale transmission and related projects in Billings, Montana. You will assist with data collection, modeling, reports, and cross-functional coordination under minimal supervision, contributing to safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and FE exam progress; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and FE exam progress.
• Knowledge of transmission engineering for large capital projects.
• Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, RUS Bulletins, and related codes.
• Ability to model power lines and structures, and analyze routes.
• Capable of writing technical reports and calculations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and safety standards for transmission assets.
• Collect, compile, and analyze data for high voltage projects.
• Assist with design, routing, and siting of transmission lines and substations.
• Provide technical assistance on equipment sizing, cabling, and grounding.
• Support cross-functional teams and regulatory compliance reviews.
• Prepare sketches, calculations, and documentation for packages.
