Job summary

Kintec Global Recruitment is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer II for a leading power engineering and infrastructure services firm in Houston, TX. You will support overhead and underground transmission projects from conceptual design through construction, performing calculations and preparing construction packages under senior engineers.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) and EIT certification, with PE licensure pursued.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited university degree in Civil, Electrical, Structural or related engineering field.
• EIT certification required or able to obtain shortly after hire.
• Progress toward Professional Engineer licensure is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design overhead and underground transmission line projects from 69kV to 765kV.
• Perform engineering calculations including structure loading, conductor selection, line ratings, sag and tension, clearance analysis, and foundation loading.
• Develop transmission line plans, profiles, staking sheets, drawings, and construction packages.
• Coordinate with structural, civil, geotechnical, survey, environmental, permitting, and other disciplines throughout project execution.
• Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, design summaries, calculations, and supporting project documentation.
• Support field activities including site visits, construction support, field evaluations, and engineering assessments during installation.

Power & Utilities / Transmission Engineering

Position Overview

A leading power engineering and infrastructure services company is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer II to support the engineering, analysis, and design of overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV.

The role will perform engineering calculations, prepare construction packages, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and support projects from conceptual design through construction. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior engineers while independently managing assigned portions of projects and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design for overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
• Perform engineering calculations including structure loading, conductor selection, line ratings, sag and tension, clearance analysis, and foundation loading.
• Develop transmission line plans, profiles, staking sheets, drawings, and construction packages.
• Perform transmission routing studies and evaluate design alternatives based on engineering, environmental, permitting, and constructability considerations.
• Coordinate with structural, civil, geotechnical, survey, environmental, permitting, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
• Review vendor drawings, engineering calculations, technical specifications, and construction documentation.
• Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, design summaries, calculations, and supporting project documentation.
• Support preparation of construction cost estimates, material takeoffs, and project schedules.
• Participate in internal engineering design reviews and QA/QC activities.
• Support field activities including site visits, construction support, field evaluations, and engineering assessments during installation.
• Identify and assist with resolving technical and constructability issues during design and construction.
• Communicate and coordinate with clients, utilities, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams.
• Support proposal development by providing technical input, engineering recommendations, scope information, and labor estimates.
• Independently manage assigned engineering activities while coordinating priorities and project deadlines.
• Provide technical guidance and project support to junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable industry standards, utility requirements, design practices, and emerging transmission technologies.
• Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable client specifications, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required, or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
• Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.

Experience

• 3-5 years of transmission line engineering experience.
• Experience designing transmission systems ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
• Experience performing transmission line engineering calculations with limited supervision.
• Experience supporting overhead transmission line design and associated structures, conductors, insulators, foundations, and hardware.
• Exposure to underground transmission line engineering is advantageous.
• Experience supporting projects through design and construction phases is preferred.
