Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Charlotte, NC seeks an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to support licensed engineers on world-class designs for high-voltage transmission projects, including underground and overhead lines. You will assist in design, drawings, and field work through the project lifecycle.

You'll gain exposure to CAD tools, plan/profile drawings, and structure loading while developing critical thinking and teamwork in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
• Basic CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD).
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Campus or community involvement encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the transmission line design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for high voltage transmission lines (69-500kV).
• Assist in designing transmission line components including plan and profile drawings, structure load diagrams and foundation drawings.
• Apply basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering concepts within the industry.
• Assist with researching and compiling project data and studies.
• Assist with updating drawings across CAD software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Other duties as assigned.
