Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation Transit Development seeks a City Planner to oversee a sub-unit focused on rapid bus service and transit-priority improvements. You will manage staff, coordinate with the MTA, engage communities, pursue grants, review environmental processes, and develop project plans and budgets to advance bus infrastructure across NYC.

The position requires strong communication skills, leadership ability, and experience in transportation planning and street design.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related field
• Bachelor's degree with one year of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning
• Equivalent combination of education and experience with a Bachelor's degree required
• Two additional years of professional city planning experience for Assignment Level III after meeting minimum requirements

Responsibilities

• Lead a sub-unit to develop new and improved rapid bus service in coordination with MTA
• Oversee outreach, grant pursuit, environmental review, budgeting, and project development
• Develop designs with other sub-units and coordinate with MTA on bus service concepts
• Hire, mentor, and develop staff; prepare and present executive briefing materials
