Job summary

The City of El Paso is seeking a Transit Operator to operate passenger coaches or streetcars on assigned routes with emphasis on safety and courteous service.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, fare handling, and assisting passengers, including those with mobility devices. Requires a CDL with passenger endorsement or equivalent, and may require rail certification within 60 days for streetcar assignments.

Qualifications

• Completion of tenth grade and two years of experience operating medium vehicles or transit equipment.
• Must be 21+ years old at time of application.
• Texas Class B CDL with passenger endorsement or equivalent required at time of application.
• Rail certification within 60 days if assigned to streetcar operation.
• CDL or safety-sensitive positions require drug and alcohol testing.
• Operate passenger coach or streetcar on assigned routes and follow schedules.
• Assist disabled passengers and manage baggage and wheelchair access.

Responsibilities

• Operate passenger coach or streetcar on specified or demand-response routes.
• Pre-inspect vehicle, report safety or maintenance issues, and verify fare collection.
• Disembark and board passengers at stops and manage transfers.
• Assist disabled passengers and secure mobility devices during transit.
• Complete required paperwork including counts and route data.
