Job summary

Canopy Roots is seeking a Metro Transit Mobile Responder in the Twin Cities metro area. The role involves responding on buses, trains, and transit facilities to provide immediate, in‑the‑moment care to riders.

Successful candidates will engage individuals in need, de‑escalate crises, and connect riders to basic resources and warm referrals to our Support Team Advocates for follow-up. The position offers full-time hours (40/week), evenings, with a starting salary range and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field and at least one year of experience.
  • Associate's degree and two years of relevant experience or certification with one year of experience.
  • Minnesota state requirements for mental health professionals apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site, in-the-moment support to riders on buses, trains, and transit facilities.
  • Respond to dispatched calls from Transit Control Center with timely engagement.
  • Engage riders, assess needs, and distribute basic supplies as entry point to trust-building.
  • Conduct needs assessments and make warm referrals to Canopy Roots staff or partners.
  • Accompany riders to shelters, clinics, or intake appointments as needed.
  • Document outreach interactions and referrals per policies.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings and trainings to maintain fidelity to protocols.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and staff to improve service delivery.
