Job summary

Canopy Roots is recruiting for the Metro Transit Mobile Responder role in the Twin Cities area. You will provide on-site, trauma-informed support to riders on buses and trains, conduct needs assessments, and coordinate referrals to housing, shelter, or behavioral health services.

The position requires evening shifts (6 PM–2 AM), flexibility to cover shifts, and active participation in supervision and training. Salary is hourly, with a starting range of $26.85–$31.65.

Qualifications

  • Must have a degree or equivalent experience in social services or related field.
  • Experience engaging with vulnerable populations and crisis situations.
  • Trauma-informed care and de-escalation training or lived experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site, in-the-moment support to riders on buses, trains, and transit facilities using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to calls from Metro Transit's Control Center to engage riders and deliver services.
  • Distribute basic supplies and connect riders with housing, shelters, or behavioral health resources.
  • accompany riders to shelters or appointments to reduce access barriers.
  • Document outreach, referrals, and interventions per policies and reporting standards.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, case debriefs, and ongoing training to maintain fidelity.

Education

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field
Associate's degree with relevant experience
Peer Support Specialist / Psychiatric Technician certification
