Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a skilled vehicle mechanic for the Public Transportation department. The role involves performing intermediate repairs on diesel buses and support vehicles, including brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive systems.

You will work with Equipment Techs and Lead Techs and document work using maintenance software. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a journeyman apprenticeship, plus 2–3 years of relevant maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.
• Two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance/repair experience OR three (3) years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate repairs and parts replacement on diesel bus, heavy‑duty gasoline, and light‑duty vehicles.
• Assist Equipment Techs and Lead Techs with complex repairs.
• Service brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive system components; document work in maintenance software.
• Respond to service calls in the field; maintain shop areas and tools; ensure safety and quality.
