Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a skilled automotive technician within the Maintenance & Operations department. You will service and repair a variety of vehicles and equipment, assist mechanics, maintain shop areas, and document work using our maintenance software.

A high school diploma or GED and a journeyman apprenticeship, plus one year experience, are required. A valid Alaska Driver's License and clean driving record are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.
• One (1) year of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.
• Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
• A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Services and maintains a variety of vehicles and equipment including oil changes, fluid level checks, lubrication of moving parts, and checking batteries.
• Assists mechanics in the repair and maintenance of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and other pieces of equipment.
• Cleans and maintains shop work areas including removal of snow, and debris.
• Properly disposes of discarded oil and other servicing related materials.
• Dismounts, repairs, performs mounting, balancing and removing/replacing of tires at various locations.
• Maintains a harmonious work environment. Assists in shop cleanup, moving vehicles to/from the shop.
• Utilizes the equipment maintenance management software to document work performed.
• Must provide own standard tools of the trade.
• Performs other duties assigned.
