In this critical role, you will lead and support a team of Emergency and Public Safety Police Dispatchers and/or Fixed Route Bus Dispatchers in UTA’s Transit Communications Center (TCC). Your responsibilities include overseeing daily dispatch activities, managing emergency and non-emergency calls accurately, and maintaining seamless communication to connect employees and riders with the help they need.
As a supervisor, you will guide operations, implement and improve procedures, and provide mentorship and training to foster a high-performing team. Your contributions will directly impact the safety, reliability, and success of UTA’s transit services.
As the Transit Communications (Dispatch) Supervisor, your duties will include:
- Supervising the UTA Transit Communications Center (TCC), including police dispatch and Fixed Route Bus dispatch.
- Implementing new or revised policies and procedures for TCC operations.
- Serving as a technical expert and operating the Transit Police and Fixed Route communications dispatch system; acting as an S2 System Administrator for UTA.
- Serving as the Bureau of Criminal Identification Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) Officer or Alternate TAC Officer.
- Evaluating and recommending improvements for communication and security technologies.
- Serving as a POST In-Service training instructor and training coordinator for the TCC.
Work Schedule
- Dispatchers, Trainees, and supervisors work in a 24/7/365 control room setting.
- Shifts are generally 4 ten-hour shifts.
- Willingness to work nights, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call duties is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience - At least 3 years of acceptable work history in public safety, EMS, or transportation dispatch, including 3 years in law enforcement, fire, or military communication dispatch centers.
- Experience in managing records, systems, and projects.
- One year of leadership experience.
- UTA Dispatching experience is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.
Education/Training/Certifications - Associate’s degree preferred.
- State of Utah POST training or military communications training is preferred.
- State of Utah POST Instructor certification is preferred.
Equivalent education and experience may be considered; UTA reserves the right to determine equivalencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office; knowledge of computer hardware/software.
- Understanding of law enforcement and transit dispatch radio communications and operations.
- Strong communication, leadership, conflict resolution, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and work effectively under stress.
- Demonstrates sensitivity, diplomacy, integrity, punctuality, and reliability.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Background Check Requirements
- No convictions involving dishonesty, unlawful sexual conduct, violence, DUI, or controlled substances within the past 5 years.
- Background screening including criminal, drug, alcohol, psychological, social media, reference, employment, motor vehicle, and BCI checks will be conducted.

Pay Rate: $71,800 or more, depending on experience.
