Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of heavy equipment or automotive maintenance experience.
• OCTA Apprentice Mechanic program may substitute for experience.
• Experience with CNG and battery-electric vehicles is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and use diagnostic software.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects on transit buses
• Perform preventive maintenance, including tune-ups, brake service, and fluid checks
• Service pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, cooling, steering, suspension, and fuel systems
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems, alternators, wiring, and computer-controlled components
• Use specialized tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment safely
• Perform brake relines and road tests to verify repair quality
• Maintain accurate service records and a clean, safe work environment
• Support and mentor apprentices or entry-level mechanics
