Job summary

City of Gardena is seeking a skilled Transit Maintenance Mechanic to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair a range of buses, vans and City vehicles. You will perform tune-ups, major mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance, including engines, transmissions, drive components and electrical systems.

Ideal candidates have four or more years as a journeyman mechanic, with experience on diesel, hybrid and alternative fuel systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or trade school completion.
• Minimum four years as a journeyman mechanic, with bus/heavy equipment experience.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing bus HVAC systems is desirable.
• Experience with electric or hybrid vehicles is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and perform tune-ups and major mechanical repairs on buses, vans and City equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs; overhaul engines, transmissions and drive components as needed.
• Repair electrical systems, starters, batteries, lighting and gauges; service braking systems and hydraulics.
