Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • One or two years of direct advising experience with transfer students, students with disabilities, or students in academic difficulty preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse faculty, staff and student population while representing the Academic Advising Center and the College.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in group and individual advisement and registration sessions for all new freshman and transfer students including CUNY Justice Academy students.
  • Work with a caseload of students on academic probation to develop individualized academic plans.
  • Advise CUNY Justice Academy (CJA) students at select partner campuses on transition requirements, transfer credit equivalencies, and course selection.
  • Disseminate information on John Jay college and CUNY policies and procedures.
  • Serve as information resource on Justice Academy policies and procedures for students, faculty and staff at partner campuses.
  • Co-facilitate Justice Academy events with community college and John Jay partners.
  • Maintain student transition tracking databases and CJA advising email account.
  • Engage in professional development activities and stay current with standards and IT tools.
