Job summary

John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of The City University of New York, seeks an experienced Student Career Program Specialist to provide in-person and virtual career advising, develop engaging programs, and collaborate with faculty and employers to connect students and alumni with diverse career opportunities.

The role emphasizes helping students across all stages of career advancement, maintaining industry contacts, and infusing DEI principles into work while supporting evening/weekend

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and four years related experience required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years of career advising and/or career coaching experience.
• Minimum of two years of industry based recruiting experience in Consulting, Finance, Healthcare, Media and/or Tech.
• Demonstrated knowledge of career development principles.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain employer and community relationships.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with career databases and online teaching platforms; familiarity with video conferencing and social media tools.
• Ability to learn new technologies and create engaging programs for students/alumni.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice in work.
• Ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and virtual individual and group career advising through appointments, classroom visits, workshops and other group presentations.
• Educate and help students at all stages and in all functions of the career advancement process.
• Design, develop, market, and present creative career development programming.
• Track career and professional development data including appointments, programs, and employer contacts.
• Infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into all aspects of work.
• Work with faculty, staff, and employers to collect, market, and deliver industry information and programming.
• Develop, create and maintain tips sheets, industry-based resources, and maps by major/degree.
• Serve as subject matter expert in one or more industry areas.
• Seek new ways to reach employers, faculty, and students to encourage participation at events.
• Possess working knowledge of career tools and platforms (Focus 2, Handshake, VMock, EAB Navigate).
• Work occasional evenings and/or weekends for appointments and programs.
