Job summary

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is seeking a Transfer Academic Advisor to support transfer and freshman students, including those in the CUNY Justice Academy. The role involves group and individual advisement, course planning, and advising across partner campuses.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree and 1–2 years of direct advising experience with transfer students or students facing academic challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One or two years of direct advising experience with transfer, disabled, or academically at-risk students preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in group and individual advisement and registration sessions for all new freshman and transfer students, including CUNY Justice Academy students.
  • Manage a caseload of academically probationary students to develop individualized academic plans.
  • Advise CJA students at partner campuses on transfer credits, course selection and transition requirements.
  • Disseminate information on John Jay College and CUNY policies and procedures.
