Job Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors, including brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, basic structural repairs, and more, all while working out of a service truck and adhering to strict safety regulations. Conduct general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Use technical publications or automated systems to maintain vehicles to prescribed manufacturer schedules and research parts. Properly annotate all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual/systematic 90‑day inspections on equipment as required.
• Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
• Identify parts and supplies as needed.
• Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
• Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
• Use welding equipment.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities

• Able to learn and demonstrate vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Able to learn and demonstrate tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, or vocational school required.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing tractors and trailers.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full‑time position; days and hours are Monday through Friday, hours depend on location.

Company Information

• Work environment has a climate similar to outdoor weather. Frequent exposure to loud machinery, air tool operation, hammering and engine noise.

Physical Demands

• Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to fit into a 20” cargo trailer dome opening.
• Able to meet safety standards for fall protection harness – max weight 310 lbs. (includes all PPE worn)
• Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Stand for long periods of time.
• Walk for long periods of time.
• Bend or twist body.
• See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
