Job summary

Quality Repair Solutions (QRS®) is seeking an energetic Trailer Mechanic to service and repair tractors and trailers in Augusta, GA. You will perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure compliance with DOT, federal, and state standards while maintaining equipment longevity.

Responsibilities include diagnosing malfunctions, replacing worn parts, welding as needed, and documenting work in the maintenance software.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience repairing trailers and medium duty trucks.
  • Knowledge of diesel, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • DOT HM-183 certification, training or experience; ASE recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic inspections (90 day and HM-183) as required.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate yard hostler to move trailers within facility.
  • Order and receive parts as needed.
  • Follow OSHA and environmental policies for safety and waste handling.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform HM-183 inspections (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC,EPA-M27) as required.
  • Possess ability to use welding as needed.
  • Annotate maintenance and labor in maintenance management software.

Job Summary:

Responsible for performing preventative maintenance, special inspections and general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Determines the overall mechanical condition of tractors, trailers and associated equipment, diagnoses component malfunctions and initiates repair actions. Repairs components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub- assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, brakes, hubs, bearings, seals, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, steering, hydraulics; control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Use a welder to make repairs as needed. Uses technical publications or automated systems in maintaining vehicles to prescribed manufacturers’ maintenance schedules and for researching parts. Properly annotates all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic 90 day and HM-183 inspections (trailers) on equipment as required.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety
  • Using welding equipment
  • Perform HM-183 DOT inspections (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC,) (EPA-M27).

Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in repair and service of trailers and medium duty trucks.
  • Required to have demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Required to have demonstrated knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Up to 3 years as a fleet mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, Training or experience. ASE Certification not required but recommended.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent vocational school required.
  • 3 years as a cargo tanker mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, Training or experience.

Additional Job Information

  • This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours depend on location.

  • Able to fit into a 20" cargo trailer dome opening.
  • Able to meet safety standards for fall protection harness – max weight 310 lbs. (includes all PPE worn)

  • Bend or twist their body.
