Job summary

Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County is seeking a Technical Specialist 2-CHYM to support the CHYM program. You will perform field inspections, coordinate construction activities, and document progress for traffic signal modernization projects in Nashville.

The role requires strong collaboration with NDOT staff, consultants, contractors, utilities, and other agencies, plus responsive handling of service requests and field observations to support traffic engineering needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by job related technical education.
• Six years of responsible experience in the area of technical specialty.
• Two years of supervisory/lead experience and/or project management experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs field inspections of CHYM traffic signal construction and modernization projects, including equipment, cabinets, poles, foundations, conduit, wiring, and related improvements.
• Reviews construction activities for conformance with plans, specs, permits, and NDOT requirements.
• Documents construction progress through field notes, photographs, inspection reports, quantities, and deficiency lists.
• Identifies field conditions and coordinates with NDOT staff, consultants, contractors, and inspectors to resolve issues.
• Supports coordination of construction activities with traffic signal operations, utilities, and adjacent developments.
• Assists with pre-construction reviews, meetings, punch-list inspections, and project closeout activities.
• Verifies field conditions and installation requirements for traffic signal equipment.
• Monitors project progress and communicates status and scheduling concerns to management.
• Reviews plans and engineering drawings related to traffic signal projects.
• Coordinates with other Metro departments, contractors, and agencies on transportation construction matters.
• Supports administration of contracts for traffic signal projects.
• Responds to Hub Nashville service requests and traffic engineering inquiries via field investigations.
