Job summary

Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County seeks Traffic Signal Technicians 1 for the Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) to install, maintain, operate and repair traffic control devices across Nashville. The role supports Vision Zero through reliable signals, ITS and camera systems.

This entry-level position involves wiring signal boxes, preventive maintenance, and safe operation practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and one year of skilled labor related experience in construction, building maintenance or solid state equipment.
• For this specific position, no substitution will be considered.
• Valid Driver License.
• Accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
• Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078 residency requirement to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and keeps NDOT’s Adaptive Signal Control Technology working at a high level of performance.
• Installs and maintains electronic and traffic signal equipment such as audible pedestrian button, wireless communication, and conflict monitors.
• Improves and maintains existing signalized intersections, warning beacons, and pedestrian crossings.
• Tests, diagnoses, and maintains various electronic equipment related to NDOT’s upgraded traffic signals and communications.
• Installs temporary and permanent traffic control devices within NDOT’s guideline to divert traffic and ensure public safety.
• Performs preventive maintenance including use, care, repair, and operation of traffic signals and street lighting circuits.
• Troubleshoots traffic signals and streetlight circuits that are attached to traffic signals.
• Reads and understands blueprints related to the installation of traffic signals systems.
