Job summary

Selby Jennings seeks a Trade Support professional to join a fast-paced proprietary trading firm in Chicago. You will provide critical support to multiple trading desks across derivatives and crypto-related products, ensuring accurate trade capture, reconciliation, and daily P&L reporting.

You will work with traders, researchers, and software engineers to optimize workflows, enhance trading tools, and automate processes using Python, Linux, and Git to solve real-time challenges.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of experience in front office, middle office, back office, trade support, or risk functions within a fast-paced trading environment.
• Strong knowledge of derivatives markets and crypto assets, with ability to work independently while collaborating with senior stakeholders.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of identifying and improving operational processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support to multiple trading desks, ensuring accurate capture, booking, reconciliation, and reporting of complex derivatives and crypto-related transactions.
• Perform daily trade and position reconciliations with brokers and clearing firms, investigate breaks, and support P&L calculation and substantiation.
• Develop understanding of proprietary trading, inventory, treasury, risk management, and trade capture systems to support desk activity.
• Serve as a partner to traders, software engineers, and technology teams to enhance workflows and automate processes.
• Act as an owner of operational processes, identifying opportunities to automate and improve infrastructure through new technologies and best practices.
• Support traders' risk management and operational needs while aiding enhancements to desk tools and applications.
• Leverage Python, Linux, Git, and related technologies to analyze problems and develop practical solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of derivatives markets, thrive in a highly collaborative environment, and have a proven ability to identify operational inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions that improve workflow, risk management, and overall desk performance.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Provide operational support to multiple trading desks, ensuring the accurate capture, booking, reconciliation, and reporting of complex derivatives and crypto-related transactions, including futures and options.
• Perform daily trade and position reconciliations with brokers and clearing firms, investigate breaks, and support P&L calculation and substantiation.
• Develop a deep understanding of proprietary trading, inventory, treasury, risk management, and trade capture systems to effectively support desk activity.
• Serve as a key partner to traders, software engineers, and technology teams to enhance workflows, optimize trading tools, and implement scalable process improvements.
• Act as an owner of operational processes, identifying opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve existing infrastructure through the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
• Support traders' risk management and operational needs while helping drive enhancements to desk tools and applications.
• Leverage technical skills, including Python, Linux, Git, or similar technologies, to analyze complex problems and develop practical solutions.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and skills:

• Bring 2-3+ years of experience within front office, middle office, back office, trade support, or risk functions supporting exchange-traded and OTC products in a fast-paced trading environment.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of derivatives markets, a keen interest in digital assets/crypto, and the ability to work independently while partnering effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of identifying operational challenges and implementing meaningful improvements.
