Job summary

Alfred University HR is seeking an HR Manager: Benefits, Leave and Compensation to lead total rewards programs including health, retirement, wellness, and leave programs, and steward compensation through market pricing.

The role reports to the Associate Director of HR, supervises a Benefits Specialist, is an on-site role in New York, and supports a 37.5-hour work week with a salary range of $70,000 to $75,000.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in HR, business, psychology or related field.
• 3–5 years of progressive benefits/compensation experience preferred, including at least 1 year supervisory.
• CEBS/CBP or SHRM/PHR certification preferred.
• Vendor/broker management experience in HR including leaves and compensation.
• Strong written and oral communication, analytical and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor the Benefits Specialist (Benefits & Training).
• Lead orientation and cross-training within the HR team.
• Provide high-quality customer service to employees and supervisors.
• Ensure ACA filings, 1095-C forms, and nondiscrimination testing compliance.
• Oversee leaves administration (FMLA, NY PFL, disability, workers’ comp, sabbatical).
• Manage compensation processes: market analysis, salary ranges, and FLSA determinations.
• Maintain HRIS data integrity and generate dashboards for reporting.
• Develop benefits, compensation, and leave program training and communications.
