Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a System Safety Engineer 3 in Dulles, VA for on-site work within the Space Sector. The role focuses on applying system safety processes to minimize risk and maximize mission reliability across all phases from proposal through launch.

The candidate will develop and review safety artifacts (SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, MSPSP), coordinate across IPTs, and ensure compliance with AFSPCMAN 91-710 and Range Safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field from an accredited university with at least 5 years of system safety experience.
• Active Top Secret Clearance required at time of application.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and applying safety into system design to mitigate hazards.
• Experience developing, reviewing, updating, and approving system safety artifacts (SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, MSPSP).
• Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710 and Range Safety compliance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance as needed.

Responsibilities

• Define, implement, and verify System Safety requirements to mitigate inherent risks.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards in spacecraft per MIL-STD-882E.
• Prepare safety artifacts and documentation to support customer requirements.
• Coordinate with Cross-IPTs to adjudicate hazards and communicate safety risk.
• Support launch range safety documentation in accordance with applicable standards.
• Prepare packages for program milestones and present them to stakeholders.
