Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Dulles, VA is seeking a Staff System Safety Engineer to join our Space Sector on-site. You will drive system safety requirements across the program lifecycle, focusing on reliability and mission success. The role requires deep knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, hazard analysis, and safety artifacts such as SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, and MSPSP.

Strong writing and cross-functional communication are essential. Active TS clearance is required; SAP clearance may be pursued.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 12+ years of system safety experience.
Active Top Secret clearance required at time of application.
Experience with SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, MSPSP.
Ability to work independently and communicate with internal and external customers.
Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710 and Range Safety compliance.

Responsibilities

Define, implement, and verify system safety requirements to mitigate inherent risks.
Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards in spacecraft per MIL-STD-882E.
Prepare safety artifacts such as SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, MSPSP.
Coordinate with Cross-IPTs to support hazard adjudication and communicate safety risk.
Prepare launch range safety documentation and support design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
