Job summary

Actalent in Macomb, MI is seeking a Tooling Engineer to lead injection, compression, and RIM tooling efforts. You will drive tool designs, budgets, and RFQ processes while coordinating cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and sales.

Qualifications

• 5 to 15 years of automotive plastic injection molding tooling design and manufacturing.
• Experience leading tool launch activities from prototype through production.
• Hands-on mold trials, troubleshooting, and resolving tooling issues on the shop floor.
• Strong understanding of DFM for plastic parts.
• Experience in tooling design for injection molds, including interior automotive plastics.
• Demonstrated ability to manage tool suppliers, including RFQ ownership.
• Ability to manage and track multiple tooling programs to meet deadlines and quality standards.
• Working knowledge of molding operations and their impact on tooling design.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
• BS in Engineering (Plastics preferred) or equivalent technical experience.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain tooling specification packages for new business quoting.
• Develop tooling budgets and cost estimates.
• Lead tooling design reviews with suppliers.
• Issue RFQs and ensure complete packages for quoting.
• Support molding trials and pre-production builds.
• Track milestones and ensure tooling delivers on schedule.
