Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer focused on tooling design and analysis. You will design production and development tooling for spaceflight programs such as Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn, applying mechanical design principles and ASME Y14.5 drafting standards in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include leading tooling projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring cradle-to-grave performance across safety, cost, and quality metrics.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years’ experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
• Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis and hand calculations.
• Proven experience with CAD-based design software for modeling and drafting.
• Basic understanding of materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn units.
• Integrate concepts of mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Adhere to design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
• Manage diverse tooling challenges including fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures and weldments.
• Collaborate with component designers, manufacturing and integration engineers to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics.
• Lead projects from vendor selection through fabrication, inspection, installation, proof testing, and commissioning.
• Set and manage schedules and budgets to ensure timely project completion.
