Job summary

ABB is seeking a Tool Room Manager to lead design, engineering, and fabrication operations for stamping dies and tooling at our St. Louis area plants.

You will manage tool room personnel and capital investments, drive die performance improvements, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. Responsibilities include directing die design and fabrication, coordinating with engineering and production, and optimizing tool life and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related discipline with 8+ years of tool and die manufacturing experience including 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Extensive stamping and tooling experience including progressive die design, carbide tool fabrication, troubleshooting, maintenance, and tool life optimization.
• Experience with maintenance planning, equipment lifecycle management, project execution, and capital budgeting in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Tool Room organization by supervising, training, mentoring, and evaluating toolmakers, machinists, and apprentices while fostering safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and succession planning.
• Direct the design, fabrication, maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of stamping dies and tooling, ensuring compliance with engineering specs, quality standards, traceability, and production objectives.
• Drive operational excellence through root cause analysis, process optimization, and corrective actions that improve die performance, tool life, first-pass yield, equipment reliability, and productivity.
• Manage Tool Room operations, resources, budgets, capital investments, inventory, equipment, preventive maintenance, and documentation while collaborating with engineering, production, and quality teams.
