Tool & Die Maker (2nd Shift)
The primary responsibility is to build new tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, and other production tooling, as well as repair existing tooling. Candidates should be knowledgeable of and able to use all tools of the trade. This is a journeyman-level craft for tool and die building.
Responsibilities include planning, layout construction, and repair of tooling with very close tolerances. The tooling includes dies (draw, pierce, stake, flat), jigs, fixtures (machining and assembly), and gauges. The role involves development work with close fitting, adjustments, and sequential timing. Candidates must be able to plan construction procedures, select materials when specifications are unavailable, and perform heat treating operations, calculating shrinkage allowances as required.
The role also involves performing tool tryouts on production presses or equipment, diagnosing, and correcting problems during tryout.
