Matthews International is currently hiring for a Tool and Die Maker position to join our Production Facility in the Richmond, Indiana area. The Tool and Die Maker will be responsible for analyzing specifications, inspecting materials, fitting parts, and assembling rotary dies using machine tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.

• Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, visualizes product, and determines materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
• Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
• Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
• Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
• Smooths flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
• Assists with verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
• Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
• Assists with die setup according to production schedule.
• Builds and modifies equipment for production and product development.
• Additional duties as assigned.
• 1+ years progressive experience as a tool & die maker; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
• Possess a mechanical aptitude; ability to use a large variety of hand tools and basic knowledge of power tools, forklifts, welding equipment, and cutting torch.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.
• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear, and see.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
