Job summary

Avantus Aerospace USA is seeking an experienced Tool and Die Maker to support all manufacturing product lines by setting up and machining components and grinding as needed. This role requires repairing header tools and components and working with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones, and fixtures to tight tolerances.

Candidates should have good machining skills, solid shop math, be able to read blueprints, and use measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

Qualifications

• Basic to advanced machining skills required.
• Solid understanding of shop math for measurements and tolerances.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Experience using measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, comparators).
• 3–5 years of tool maker experience in a manufacturing facility.

Job description

Basic Purpose and Objective

Under general supervision and according to established policy and procedures the tool and die maker is responsible for performing his/her own set-ups and machine/grind all necessary components required to complete assignments given to support all manufacturing product lines.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of slip and press fit relationships.
• Repair Header tools and make complete header tool components.
• Work with carbide, hardened tool steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Work with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures.
• Use shop math as required.
• Clean and maintain the work area.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

• Good machining skills.
• Shop math
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Use measuring instruments (i.e., micrometers, calipers, comparators).
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a tool maker for a manufacturing facility.
