Job summary

SDM Composites in California is seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to perform own set-ups and machine/grind parts to support multiple manufacturing lines. Under supervision, you will ensure components meet tight tolerances and fit within assemblies.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of tool making experience, be proficient with micrometers, calipers, comparators, and read blueprints. Strong shop math and adherence to safety and quality standards are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of tool maker experience in a manufacturing facility.
• Ability to read blueprints and work with precision measuring tools.
• Strong shop math and understanding of tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Perform own set-ups and machine/grind components for all product lines.
• Repair header tools and assemble header tool components.
• Work with carbide tools, hardened steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Operate mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures.
• Apply shop math as required.
• Clean and maintain the work area.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of slip and press fit relationships.
• Repair Header tools and make complete header tool components.
• Work with carbide, hardened tool steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Work with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures.
• Use shop math as required.
• Clean and maintain the work area.
