Job summary

GFT is seeking a part-time Traffic Dispatcher (Systems Operator I - Trainee) for the Regional Traffic Management Center in Nashville, TN. The role requires onsite attendance and offers pay increases after each training level.

Responsibilities include monitoring traffic, coordinating incidents, operating ATMS, and providing real-time information to TDOT personnel and the public. Prior dispatch or traffic ops experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in transportation, public safety, IT, communications or related field preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience in traffic operations, dispatching or related field.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.

• Monitor statewide roadway conditions using CCTV, sensors and ITS devices.
• Detect, verify and document incidents, lane closures and hazards.
• Coordinate response activities with TDOT personnel and emergency services.
• Operate ATMS and related TMC systems.
• Prepare incident reports and log events accurately.
• Disseminate traveler information via DMS, 511, social media.
• Maintain compliance with procedures and safety requirements.

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a PART TIME Traffic Dispatcher (Systems Operator I - Trainee) for the Regional Traffic Management (TMC) Center in the Tennesee State Department of Transportation (TDOT) office located in Nashville, TN. This position requires onsite regular attendance at the Nashville, TN office. Traffic Dispatchers are eligible for pay increases upon successful completion of each training level.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

GFT Infrastructure is seeking qualified Traffic Technicians to support the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Traffic Management Center operations. Traffic Technicians are responsible for monitoring traffic conditions, coordinating incident response activities, operating advanced transportation management systems, and providing real-time information to TDOT personnel, emergency responders, and the traveling public. The selected candidates will play a critical role in maintaining safe and efficient traffic operations throughout the assigned TDOT region.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Monitor statewide roadway conditions using CCTV cameras, traffic sensors, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices.
• Detect, verify, and document traffic incidents, lane closures, roadway hazards, and weather-related events.
• Coordinate response activities with TDOT personnel, law enforcement, emergency services, towing and recovery operators, and maintenance crews.
• Operate Advanced Traffic Management Software (ATMS) and associated TMC systems.
• Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate event logs in accordance with established procedures.
• Disseminate traveler information through Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), 511 systems, social media platforms, and other approved communication channels.
• Monitor ITS device performance and report equipment outages or operational issues.
• Participate in emergency operations, special event traffic management, and planned roadway closure activities.
• Maintain compliance with all TDOT operating procedures, safety policies, and quality management requirements.

Education | Experience:

What You Will Bring To Our Firm

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in transportation, public safety, information technology, communications, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in traffic operations, transportation management, dispatching, emergency communications, public safety, customer service, or related technical operations environment.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency activations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.

What We Prefer You Bring

• Experience working in a Traffic Management Center, Transportation Operations Center, 911 Dispatch Center, Emergency Operations Center, or similar environment.
• Knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
• National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training.
• Experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies.
• Certifications related to transportation operations, emergency management, or public safety communications.
• Good Customer Service

Stat us: This position is contingent upon contract award, final scope confirmation, candidate qualifications, and TDOT approval.
