Job summary

Penn Medicine's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Tissue Coordinator to evaluate, procure, process, track and distribute human tissue biopsy samples for molecular pathology and genomic testing. You will work with oncologists and pathologists to select archival tissue and coordinate with in-network and outside hospitals for rapid procurement.

The role requires organizing tissue and reports, following SOPs, and communicating delays to stakeholders to support patient

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in biological, clinical or life sciences (Required)
  • 60 semester hours of science coursework, including chemistry and biology, with specified hours (Required)
  • 2 years of experience in tissue banking or coordinating genomic testing (Required)
  • Strong customer service skills (Preferred)
  • Prior experience with Laboratory Information Systems/Penn Chart (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with physician practices to identify new patients and obtain reports/blocks/slides from health system hospitals and outside organizations.
  • Assists in day-to-day coordination of tissue and/or report retrieval activities, electronic order entry, procurement, shipping, storage, and submission of material for review and testing.
  • Retrieves and submits the appropriate human tissue for clinical diagnosis, molecular pathology, and/or clinical trial.
  • Processes samples promptly following SOPs and protocol requirements.
  • Works with UPHS pathologists to expedite case review and ensure reports are available to ordering providers.
  • Communicates with UPHS network and reference sites for follow up on clarifications or test orders.
