Job summary

Penn Medicine's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania seeks a Tissue Coordinator. The coordinator evaluates, procures, processes, tracks and distributes human tissue biopsy samples and fine needle aspirations for molecular pathology and genomic testing under the direction of a supervisor.

They collaborate with oncologists and pathologists to select archival tissue, coordinate with in-network and outside hospitals, and communicate delays

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, clinical or life sciences or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years tissue banking or genomic testing coordination experience.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with physician practices to identify new patients and obtain reports/blocks/slides.
  • Assist day-to-day coordination of tissue/report retrieval, entry, procurement, shipping, and submission.
  • Retrieve and submit tissue for clinical diagnosis, molecular testing or clinical trials.
  • Process samples following SOPs and established workflows.
  • Collaborate with pathologists to expedite case review and ensure reports are available to ordering providers.
  • Communicate delays to UPHS network and reference sites; minimize pre-analytical delays.

Education

BA/BS in biological or life sciences
60 semester hours science coursework
2 years tissue banking/genomic testing experience
