Job summary

Austin Pets Alive! is seeking a Thrift Store Manager to lead day-to-day operations of its Thrift stores and guide on-site volunteers and staff. The role reports to the Director of Retail Operations and requires strategic planning, training, and cross‑department collaboration to maximize profits and impact.

The position is full‑time and exempt, with a typical 40‑hour week, including evenings and weekends. Location spans multiple stores in the Austin area, with growth and new locations anticipated.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of retail management experience preferred with a proven track record of success.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and prioritize workload to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
• Must be a collaborative team player who can both nurture and develop staff and volunteers.
• Proven leadership ability, as well as strength in building internal partnerships.
• Strong personnel management and retail operations knowledge, including inventory control, loss prevention, store budget preparation.
• Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (G Suite is a plus)

Responsibilities

• Lead staff and volunteers with clear expectations and mentorship.
• Ensure staff training and policy updates are implemented.
• Oversee thrift store operations to meet revenue targets.
• Coordinate in-store events targeting local student groups.
• Prepare regular reports to the Director of Retail Operations.
• Collaborate with APA! department leaders to optimize resources.
• Recruit, onboard and engage volunteers; pair staff with volunteers on shifts.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized store environment.
• Foster a volunteer‑powered culture across the team.
• Develop and manage work schedules to ensure proper coverage.
