Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks skilled Third Mates to join our growing fleet sailing inland and coastal waterways across the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, rivers and Great Lakes. You will help maintain safe vessel operations, mentor crew, and uphold our five-star guest service standard while working with Deckhands and Engineers.

Qualified candidates hold a USCG Master’s license (≥100 GRT, Near Coastal), TWIC, and piloting experience on coastal and river waterways.

Qualifications

• Must hold a U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license with Near Coastal endorsement (minimum 100 GRT).
• TWIC required for access to US ports and restricted areas.
• Piloting and boat handling experience on coastal and river waterways (6 months+, 1 year preferred).
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities; good grooming and professional appearance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
• Safe launch operations in compliance with standards.
• Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
• Stand helm, security, and gangway watches as assigned.
• Perform cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics tasks.
• Stand piloting watches under Captain or Mate guidance.
• Assist Engine Room Attendant with machinery and system maintenance.
• Support hotel and culinary teams in delivering five-star guest service.
• Maintain logs, reports, and administrative records.
