Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks Third Mates to join our growing fleet sailing inland and coastal waterways across the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, and major river systems. Officers provide safe operations and lead by example for guests and crew, with hands-on duties across watchstanding, maintenance, and service.

Licensed mariners with a Master’s license and relevant cruising experience will contribute to safety, training, and guest experience as part of a professional team living aboard during

Qualifications

• U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license with Near Coastal endorsement (minimum 100 GRT).
• TWIC card held and maintained.
• Piloting and boat handling experience on coastal and river waterways (6 months to 1 year).
• Pre-employment drug screening and ongoing random testing.
• Ability to live and work aboard for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
• Perform safe launch operations in compliance with standards.
• Conduct daily inspections of vessel spaces.
• Stand helm, security, and gangway watches in Deckhand rotation.
• Execute vessel cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
• Support piloting watches under captain or mate instruction.
• Assist Engine Room Attendant with machinery and system maintenance.
• Support hotel and culinary teams in delivering five-star guest service.
• Maintain logs, reports, and administrative records.
• Maintain exemplary grooming and uniform appearance.
