Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites engineers to join the Thermal and EO/IR Modeling and Simulation group in the Baltimore area. You will develop physics-based thermal models for missiles and related systems, integrating results with optical characteristics to predict EO/IR signatures for DoD programs.

Qualified candidates possess a degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering with 3–5+ years of experience, strong coding skills (Python/Matlab/C++), and the ability to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master degree with relevant years of experience in physics-based modeling and simulation
  • Experience in heat transfer, radiation transport, aerothermodynamics or infrared signatures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop physics-based thermal models of missiles, rocket motor plumes, air platforms and other systems to support programs (IAMD)
  • Integrate thermal results with optical characteristics to predict EO/IR signatures in exo- and endo-atmospheric environments
  • Collaborate with senior developers to improve code suites and maintain leadership in EO/IR signature community
  • Document and present findings to government agencies and sponsors
