Job summary

The University of New Mexico Bookstore is seeking a Sales Assistant in Textbooks to deliver high-quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the public in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. You will work as part of a collaborative team, handle POS transactions, maintain accuracy, deescalate tense situations, and assist other Bookstore departments as needed; strong communication and multitasking are essential.

All employees must abide by UNM policies and Bookstore procedures.

Qualifications

Experience in retail environment.
Excellent customer service in person, via email, & over the phone.
Experience with POS applications & cash handling.
Calm, professional personality.
Self-motivated with an ability to stay productive.
Excellent customer service skills.
Effective communication skills.
Strong people skills with ability to be a good listener and deescalate.
Intermediate computer skills; MS Office Suite.
Ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

Serve students, faculty, staff and the general public in a fast-paced bookstore setting.
Handle POS transactions and cash with accuracy.
Deescalate tense situations to maintain a positive customer experience.
Assist other Bookstore departments as needed.
Maintain high standards of customer service and teamwork.
